HOW TO GO ABOUT JAMB REGISTRATION

HOW TO GO ABOUT JAMB REGISTRATION

Yearly, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)  conducts an exam for secondary school leavers or individuals looking to further their education into a Nigerian University. The exam usually holds early in the year while the universities are still in session. It can be regarded as a preliminary exam though as candidates still have to write an exam with whatever University they select. The name of that examination is usually called Post JAMB or Post UTME. UTME is the short for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Board. The JAMB exam exercise is very popular and it is one that many individuals look forward to every year.

The exam has been around for quite some time and was formerly a paper pen test, otherwise known as PPT or paper based test. But as time went on and advancements came in the education sector, individuals no longer had to write a paper based exam but instead a computer based test, otherwise called a CBT. The CBT allows candidates or individuals who want to write the exam to use a computer based software to go about it. With this method, candidates can get their result in a matter of hours or at best, a couple of days. But before writing the exams, candidates must register with JAMB. A couple of information about the candidate will be filled in and a profile will be created.

Registration of the JAMB exam has go beyond something you can just go to a regular cybercafe and get it done. The method of registration involves going to a JAMB accredited center and getting your registration done. The examination body lists the different centers that have been accredited and certified to go about the JAMB registration on their website and that is where students or candidates who want to write the exams can get registered.

One of the things candidates will be required to get is their National Identity Number (NIN). It is something that JAMB has just started amidst some other changes. Candidates will have to fill in their details at the accredited centers to be able to write the exam. Some of the information to be filled include name, date of birth, state, phone number and some other basic things like that. It is with these information that a JAMB profile will be created at the center after which individuals can go on to print their examination slip and login to the portal whenever they want.

Candidates will also need to fill out information on their choice of institutions. There are always four slots for each candidates and they’re always advised to pick a first choice  second, third and fourth choice. The option for first choice is always a Federal University while the second is a State University, third as a polytechnic or college of education and fourth as a computer training center. This can, of course, be filled out according to the choice of the candidate and they can choose to put whichever one they want above another.

To complete the registration process, candidates will also select the state and area where they want to write their exams. Upon completion and after a specified time, they can then go on to re-print their examination slip to know the location JAMB has posted them to for their exam. If there are any mistakes, they can be corrected before the closing date specified by JAMB after paying a correction fee.
