HOW TO CHECK YOUR JAMB ADMISSION STATUS
Yearly, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducts an exam for secondary school leavers or individuals looking to further their education into a Nigerian University. The exam usually holds early in the year while the universities are still in session. It can be regarded as a preliminary exam though as candidates still have to write an exam with whatever University they select. The name of that examination is usually called Post JAMB or Post UTME. UTME is the short for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Board. The JAMB exam exercise is very popular and it is one that many individuals look forward to every year.
The exam has been around for quite some time and was formerly a paper pen test, otherwise known as PPT or paper based test. But as time went on and advancements came in the education sector, individuals no longer had to write a paper based exam but instead a computer based test, otherwise called a CBT. The CBT allows candidates or individuals who want to write the exam to use a computer based software to go about it. With this method, candidates can get their result in a matter of hours or at best, a couple of days. But before writing the exams, candidates must register with JAMB. A couple of information about the candidate will be filled in and a profile will be created.
After the exams, results don’t take too long to received and after the entire exercise, universities release their cut off marks which will be the basis for the admission of new students. Candidates who meet the cut off mark for their selected universities are able to enroll for Post UTME examination. After this exams, admission can then be sorted after again meeting the university’s post UTME cut off mark. This is when the admission status can be checked on JAMB’s website after which you have to accept or reject with the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
Upon accepting, candidates can proceed to print their admission letter and then go about whatever registration is needed in the school selected. The JAMB admission status might take some time before showing and until the entire admission process is completed for the year, candidates can keep checking to confirm their status. It is usually posted in batches and eventually it will come up if a candidate has been offered admission.
